The CSU Bathurst RLFC was established in 1974 by Maths lecturer Col Billington. Since then, the club has entered teams into various competitions such as CRL Group 10, Mid West Cup and NSW Tertiary Rugby League competitions. The club has also gained some silverware including the undefeated 1975 team (Mid West Cup) and the 1998 team (NSW Tertiary League).
In 2008, the 'Mungoes' entered 1st and 2nd Grade teams into the NSW Tertiary Rugby League competition. 1st Grade narrowly missed out on the finals series, while 2nd Grade ended up being runners-up, losing a tough encounter in the decider 22-8 to Newcastle University. Many players also gained rep footy honours with 1st Grade Capt-Coach Sam Conlon heading them by making the Australian University team that won the Student World Cup in Brisbane. Conlon also represented NSW University earlier in the year. Jeremy Smith and Lachlan Blaikie made the NSW Students team that played Cambridge University (UK) in a one-off match, with Smith earning Man-of-the-Match in the fixture. Sam Thompson, Kieran French, Neil Warren, Shem Purdy, Pete McDonnell and Nick Sharah were all selected in the Country Tertiary team that battled with City Tertiary.
The Mungoes are one of the largest clubs at CSU, holding a strong reputation as a club that play hard on the field, but also parties hard off the field. Each year we hold numerous social events for our players and other club members.
Some social events that we have planned for 2009 include:
- Registration Night
- Speed Meeting Night (w/ CSU Cheerleading Club)
- Gender Bender Ball (w/ CSU Netball Club)
- Veterens vs Virgins Challenge (between Cindy Ball & Village Fair)
- Presentation Night
- Ladies Day, Family Day and Sponsors Day (all to be held at home games during the year)
Another social element being introduced to the Mungoes in 2009, is the 'Wolfman Comp'. All players will put $5 into a kitty at the start of the season. From that point on players CAN NOT cut head or facial hair at all. If they do, they're out of the comp, with the last man standing being the winner and collecting the cash.
If you want to give Rugby League a crack, no matter if you've played all your life or if you're giving it a go for your first time, come to Diggings Oval @ CSU on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6pm - 8pm and become a part of the Mungoes. |
